Manhattan Beach adopted a new city flower, the Beach Primrose, Camissonia cheiranthifolia, at its February 15th city council meeting. The idea for the flower was proposed by the Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden board of directors last November with the help of Gary McAulay of the Manhattan Beach Historical Society. Beach Suncup or Beach Evening Primrose, as it is also know, is a little-known drought tolerant native. Its new designation helps the city reclaim a piece of its horticultural heritage, and in the process offers a symbol for the modern "green" movement. Thank you everyone who supported this effort.
